'Superhero' is a song about cancer, and all the fears and uncertainties surrounding it. It was written in 1999-2000 after experiencing the loss of two grandparents to the disease. It was finally included on my album 'The Orange Line' in 2013. Recently my Granny has had successful cancer treatment through Beatson Cancer Centre at Glasgow Gartnavel Hospital.
100% of all sales from this 'Superhero' single will be donated to the Beatson Cancer Charity.
Reviews of 'Superhero'
"The sound of a symphonious and dreamy string section, of melodious guitar riffs imbues the air at the very moment at which 'Superhero' begins to resonate. A blissful, soothing listening atmosphere is established, intensified though by a soul-stirring and moving vocal performance which has an absorbing effect on the listener as the vocals alternate between fragile and haunting, severe sound" - Carpe Carmina, Music Blog
" Superhero opens slowly, quietly and delicately orchestral in its echoing atmosphere. It’s a gentle cascade of pained, crying vocals, loaded restrained passion and a lust for creation of wonderful music.
The intensity of the vocals alone are something enviable that ought to be raved about in their own right. You can quite literally hear Wright pouring his very soul into his music.
The beautifully delicate twinkling strings are punctuated sharply by the harsh cymbal crashes and in the lulls where there is just music you can almost feel something Spanish about the guitar playing and, in the quiet spaces that you could drive buses through you can start to appreciate the musical genius and artistic timing of Wright in every second of his composition.
In the lyrics there is a story that is screaming out to be heard and felt and the shivers running down your spine are caused entirely by Wright’s deliciously unique vocals that are strained with emotion and determination to free himself of it." - Ticket Stubs, Music Blog
